The Academy begins in February each year. The Community Academy is a FREE, 12-week program that facilitates communication and understanding of the police role in the community. Rental property owners and managers receive landlord/tenant attorney instruction on laws and best practices which can benefit the safety and livability of rental properties. The events are free, and donations are collected to support Hillsboro Schools Foundation Safe & Sober graduation night parties. Hillsboro community members can safely shred personal documents and reduce their risk for identity theft at our biannual Shred It events held in the spring and fall. Safety Town is a week-long, half-day summer camp for children ages five and six. Over 500 pounds of medications are typically collected and destroyed at each event, which keeps them out of the wrong hands. Twice a year in the spring and fall, we collect unused, unwanted, or expired prescription and over the counter medications for safe disposal. Learn more and request a Police Party Patrol at your National Night Out Event. 2020, 2021 & Spring 2022 Shred Day Events were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions/cautions. Held on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out is an opportunity for the community to gather, celebrate, connect with the Hillsboro Police Department, and give crime a going away party. The location of the Shred Day does move around the city.
